"The "School Names on the Net" project allocated every school in England with a unique Domain Name in a logical, coherent and transparent way. Every school in England has been allocated a domain name corresponding to the standard format: <school name>.<geographical area>.sch.uk (Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales have simalar naming schemes). To activate your school's .sch.uk domain name or change your ISP, the school (or LEA where the school is state-maintained) will need to confirm to Nominet UK which ISP they intend to use as a host for the domain. No fee is charged for activation a .sch.uk domain and you will not be made to pay a renewal fee."

Usually the above process is very smooth - however from time to time we do encounter problems with getting control of your domain - this is often mitigated by using a temporary domain and redirecting through to your alternative domain.
