Getting in Google (Search Engine Optimisation / SEO )
This is very much an ABC of SEO so if you know anything about SEO and are looking for SEO services please contact UsableContent.
Some initial pointers:
Getting into the search engines like Google and MSN is often called SEO which is short for Search Engine Optimisation. In essense these search engines create an 'index' of your pages and this is consulted when ever you type something into the search box.
You don't need to submit your site to Google - we always do this for clients of ours.
Pages are ranked (order they are listed) on various factors including what Google have been known refer to as their 'Coca-Cola' formula - (its a secret), but what we do know is:
When it appears in Google you can influence how the page looks - using the title effectively. This will be the same as the title within the UsableSchools system, but with your school tagged on the end.For instance - your contact page may say something like "Contact" but what would be better would be "Contact details phone number and map" and this would appear in Google as
Contact details phone number and map - YourSchool Name Area
The description that comes beneath it is harder to influence and can be taken from a number of places - but it comes from where ever the phrase, or keywords you entered into Google appears on the page. It may also come from other sources such as directories.
